The politics and events you have been, should be, and will be talking about…
This is quite the question as of late…
Last week marked the date for the controversial DNC fundraiser sponsored by the LGBT community, but many community leaders decided to boycott the event in order to show the administration that they can’t pocket the “gay vote” simply because the LGBT community widely votes Democratic. This is a big stand on their parts, because the event still went on to raise more money than the year before!
There is a line in the sand being drawn in some circles, because many members of the LGBT community are not convinced that the current administration will offer us anymore subtantial results than the dubbya years did.
Candidate Obama made big promises for our community, and has yet to deliver any impacting legislation for us.
What do we do? Could we really boycott the Democratic party? Where would we go? Form a third party and successfully make our votes pointless like the other third party tickets… no. At least not in my opinion… what we really need to do is start focusing our efforts on educating the country that we’re decent tax-paying citizens just like everyone else. Surely, some of us are more colorful than your run of the mill democrat, but we’re all hard working Americans that deserve the same rights as any other minority group. Our community has been demonized by the tyrannical right as being immorale and against family values, per the bible, so right now we need to form a union with the DNC and make them listen to our voices!
It’s a big task, but blog about it, myspace, facebook, or twitter about it to your friends for starters… it’s called grassroots politics and it’s effective. Emailing your representatives in washington is another way to get your voice heard! Just email them and tell them that you want them to start listening to our community before you vote for any of their re-election campaigns (harsh but effective). As a matter of fact, here you go… use the links below or copy and paste them to contact our Nevada reps.

That’s not a bad idea…forming your own party. A third party, independent from the independents. At least independent implies going against the grain. What a breath of fresh air it would be for a party with new thoughts, ideas, and values to emerge. I’m in. It would be great to have a party I could whole heartedly agree with. I cannot name even one person who votes along their party lines 100 percent of the time. Why do we stray? It’s the issues and how we feel about them that matter. And feelings have a high variable of change. We live and learn. Our experiences, our realities shape who we are and what we are about. Party affiliation is a box to check on a form at best. Let’s break free from the party labels. Who’s with me?
